DAY 1
Arrival in Antananarivo
Upon arrival in the capital of Madagascar, affectionately called "Tana", pass through customs and meet the Terremad representative for transfer to the hotel (superior room) for the night.
DAY 2
Antananarivo / Maroantsetra
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport for the morning flight to Maroantsetra, gateway to the great rainforest of the Masoala Peninsula, a Mecca for naturalists and wildlife enthusiasts. After hotel check-in and lunch, departure by boat to the private reserve of Andrifotra, a lush, pristine and private Eden located between the bay and the lazy river. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 3
Maroantsetra / excursion Nosy Mangabe
Full day excursion by boat to the island reserve of Nosy Mangabe, just off Maroantsetra. One is sure to see the curious brown lemur and the unique leaf-tailed gecko on a pleasant walk along the shore; a more challenging climb reveals an ancient burial site and the black-and-white ruffed lemur in the trees. Return to the hotel by the river for dinner, the night walk for the best chance to see the elusive Aye aye (partly dependent on the guide), and the night.
DAY 4
Maroantsetra / Antananarivo
Time to visit the pleasant market, known for its raffia hats and bags, before the flight back to the capital. Transfer and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 5
Antananarivo / Ft. Dauphin / Berenty Reserve
Transfer to the airport for the flight to Ft. Dauphin; upon arrival at the southernmost tip of Madagascar, meet and leave for the Berenty Reserve, a 3+ hour drive from the coastal rainforest to the spiny desert. Stops along the way to observe the unique baobabs, the rare three-cornered palms and the funerary art of Malagasy cemeteries. Afternoon and evening visits to the reserve; lunch and overnight stay.
DAY 6
Berenty Reserve
Day to be spent in the reserve with walks along the wide, well-swept paths. Catta Maki lemurs, better known as ring-tailed lemurs, are very friendly and seem happy to pose for pictures. Be prepared for surprise encounters with the magnificent sifaka lemur and other species, including flying foxes, lizards, chameleons, the endangered radiated tortoise, and dozens of rare bird species. Meal and night at the Gîte de Berenty at the edge of the forest.
DAY 7
Berenty / Ft. Dolphin
Time to visit the thorny desert reserve and the small but comprehensive cultural museum of Berenty before returning to Ft. Dolphin. In the afternoon, stop at the Nahampoana reserve, located at the edge of the city in a former research center of the French botanical garden. Cottontails, sifakas and brown lemurs live here in a lush garden against a backdrop of misty mountains. Meals and night.
DAY 8
Ft. Dauphin / Antananarivo / Andasibe
Breakfast and transfer to the airport for the morning flight to the capital. Upon arrival, meeting and departure by car to Andasibe, in the eastern rainforest, with lunch en route, then continuation to Andasibe. Dinner and overnight stay
DAY 9
Analamazaotra Reserve
Full day to spend in the reserve with an early start to see the Indri indri and hear their haunting "singing" call. A light hike allows you to discover the abundant fauna and flora of the eastern rainforest. After lunch, visit the friendly lemurs of the small reserve of Vakona. Night walk to observe nocturnal animals like mouse lemurs, chameleons, frogs... Dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 10
Andasibe / Antananarivo
After breakfast, drive back to the capital with a stop at the natural farm "Madagascar Exotic" in Mandraka. Check-in on arrival. Dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 11
Antananarivo / Diego Suarez / excursion Montagne d'Ambre
Quiet breakfast before the midday flight to Diego, a unique port located at the northern end of the island. Diego is a conglomerate of architecture reflecting the myriad of influences through the centuries. Meeting and departure for the beautiful and lush national park of the Mountain of Amber. Enjoy a late afternoon and evening stroll; overnight at the hotel.
DAY 12
Diego Suarez / excursion Ankarana / Ankify
Early departure for the Ankarana, known for its bizarre limestone pinnacles called "Tsingy". Visit the caves or climb the Tsingy to get a view of this vast area; you'll get up close and personal with the royal lemurs during your picnic lunch. Continue to Ankify in the afternoon; dinner overlooking the ocean and overnight.
DAY 13
Ankify / Nosy Be / excursion Nosy Komba and Nosy Tanikely
Early departure by boat to Nosy Be, with stops along the way on the islands of Nosy Komba, where black lemurs reign, and Nosy Tanikely for snorkeling and a barbecue lunch. Dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 14
Nosy Be / excursion Lokobe Reserve
Day trip to the Lokobe peninsula by pirogue, an indigenous paddle boat. Learn first hand from Jean-Robert and his guides about the prolific plants and wildlife of his village. Meals and night.
DAY 15
Nosy Be / Antananarivo
Rest day or visit the market place before the flight back to the capital. Transfer and night.
DAY 16
Departure Antananarivo
Free day and possibility to visit the city or some activities before the international flight.
