- 102 species of birds have been identified in Masoala, of which more than 60% are endemic to Madagascar. Different inventories led to the rediscovery of Eutriorchis astur (Madagascar serpent eagle) in 1993. The Madagascan serpent eagle is considered the rarest raptor in the world.
